Your fish photos are analyzed instantly and never stored on our servers.
Here's exactly what we collect, why, and how you can control it.
Last updated: July 21, 2026Fish photos: When you photograph or upload a fish image, it is sent to our AI backend for identification. Images are processed in real time and discarded immediately after identification — they are never stored permanently.
✓ Photos are never permanently stored — processed and discarded immediatelyScan history: Your past scan results (fish name, species, habitat, confidence score, and timestamp) are stored locally on your device only using AsyncStorage. This data never reaches our servers unless you explicitly share a result yourself.
✓ Scan history lives only on your deviceApp usage and analytics: We collect information about how you use the app — which screens you view, when you start or complete a scan, onboarding steps you reach, paywall views, subscription events, and general engagement — through Google Firebase Analytics. This is collected regardless of whether you subscribe.
Coin and ad activity: We track when you earn or spend scan coins, watch rewarded ads, and hit daily limits. This helps us understand free-tier usage patterns and improve the experience.
Purchase information: If you subscribe to Premium, your purchase is handled entirely by Google Play. We receive your subscription status and transaction value through RevenueCat, also recorded via Firebase Analytics for our own reporting. We never see your card number, billing address, or any payment details.
Log and device data: If something goes wrong, we may collect device type, OS version, and error context used solely to diagnose and fix bugs.
Free users receive 1 scan coin per day that resets at midnight. You can earn up to 3 additional coins by choosing to watch short rewarded video ads. Premium subscribers have unlimited scans with no ads.
Coin balances and daily ad counts are stored locally on your device. We track coin-related events (earning, spending, hitting the daily cap) in Firebase Analytics to understand free-tier usage — no personally identifiable information is attached to these events.
Fish Identifier does not show banner or display ads. Free-tier users may choose to watch a short rewarded video ad — served by Google AdMob — in exchange for an additional scan coin. This is always optional and nothing plays without you tapping to request it.
These ads may be personalized based on your device's advertising identifier. If you are located in the EU or EEA, we will ask for your consent before showing personalized ads via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). You can review or change your ad privacy choices at any time from the Profile screen → Ad Privacy Options.
You can also opt out at the device level:
You can manage or revoke your ad consent preferences at any time by visiting our Ad Privacy & Consent page.
Premium subscribers never see ads of any kind.
We rely on the following services, each of which may process some of your data on our behalf:
The app requests camera and photo library access solely so you can scan a fish. We never access either without your explicit action — tapping the Camera or Gallery button.
Images are used only for fish identification and are never shared, sold, or used for any other purpose.
If you are located in the European Union or EEA, you have additional rights under GDPR. When you first open the app, we will present a consent form (powered by Google UMP) asking whether you agree to personalized advertising. You can:
Our legal basis for processing analytics data is legitimate interest in improving the app. Our legal basis for personalized advertising is your explicit consent via the UMP form.
Your scan history and coin balance live locally on your device and are never uploaded to our servers. All data sent between the app and our backend uses standard HTTPS encryption.
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to anyone.
You can delete all local data at any time from Profile → Clear All Scan Data.
All payments are processed by Google Play. We never store payment card details. Subscriptions can be managed or cancelled at any time through your Google Play account settings.
Fish Identifier is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
Have a question about how we handle your data, or want to request deletion of your information? Reach out and we'll get back to you promptly.
